Browning Challenger (Challenger-I), Nomad and Medalist pistols should be marked with a letter followed by 1 or 2 numbers. It may be at the end of the serial number. "U" is for the Challenger-I, "P" for the Nomad and "T" for the Medalist model. The number after it is the manufacturer date, 3 is 1963.... 74 is 1974. If your gun does not have this code it may be a Challenger-II or III.
